Mechanical Design

I design machines, sheet metal, steel structures and technical products, from concept to production-ready CAD and drawings.

From concept to production-ready CAD

I have worked in mechanical design since 2008. A good design has to be buildable, and clear enough that production can continue from it. That holds for a simple welded frame as much as for an installation with machines, platforms, tanks, piping and access for maintenance.

Straightforward modelling and production drawings are part of the work. So is joining a team that needs extra capacity for a defined part of a machine. Drafting explains how that works and how to send a request.

I work a lot in Autodesk Inventor. The software is not the starting point. The product has to be right first.

What I design

The work sits in machine building, steel and stainless constructions, sheet metal and technical products with a lot of connection between parts. Frames and profiles, platforms and stairs, commercial-kitchen equipment, machines, process installations and assemblies.

On a larger installation I also look at layout, access, assembly, maintenance and the way the parts come together.

Parametric where it helps

I build models so that logical variation can be managed in the model.

Not every part has to be parametric. When a family has returning dimensions, options or modules, it pays to take that into account from the start. The model is faster to adapt, and it is a better base later if the work grows into automation or a configurator.

That growth is optional. A solid set of models and drawings is a complete result.

Production output belongs with it

A design is usable when the next step can continue from it.

Production drawings, bills of materials, sheet-metal details and profile information belong with the engineering. I try to build models so that this information comes from the design, instead of being assembled again afterwards.

A direct assignment is welcome

I can take the complete mechanical design, from concept to a production-ready model. I can also do the modelling and drawings for a project that is already defined, or add capacity next to an existing design team.

P.01 Mechanical design of an industrial installation A large installation rarely consists of one difficult part. The challenge usually sits in the whole.
